Discounts for teachers
By Storm Postlethwaite, MD
Schools and educators continue to face a series of challenges, not least the issue of recruitment and retention. With increasing workloads and pressures to meet national standards, it’s unsurprising that teachers’ mental health and wellbeing is being severely impacted. A recent poll by NEU found 44 per cent of England’s state school teachers plan to quit the profession by 2027, while a further 52 per cent said their workload is unmanageable with stress being a constant factor in their lives.
These issues cannot be solved overnight - it’s important for a more long-term, sustainable solution to be implemented with the help of key stakeholders and the Government. Until then, we must do all we can to praise and support these unsung heroes, who go above and beyond to create the very best opportunities for our future generation.
Part of this includes rewarding teachers with tangible benefits for their hard work. That’s why at Discounts for Teachers, we are passionate about providing those in the sector with perks and discounted services, to help go some way in thanking them for everything they do. This is particularly pertinent at a time when we are facing an incredibly tough economic climate, on top of all the other challenges being experienced by schools and teachers.
Teachers work incredibly hard to support their pupils each day, which often leaves little time for self- care or to indulge in trips and activities. Discounts for Teachers is a free membership scheme which joins forces with retailers to help all staff, in any role working across the education sector to save money, and treat themselves or others.
Perks cover a huge range of money saving deals and vouchers, from discounted holidays, money off fashion brands through to deals on gym membership, mobile phones, and utilities. Members can also earn cashback on purchases at over 80 retailers with the Ode Card. This is a Visa Prepaid card that can be used online or in-store to earn cashback at retailers such as Asda, Sainsbury’s, Argos, Boots, Primark and many more.
Some of the offers running throughout February include 30% discount at jewellery brand, Abbot and Lyon; 15% discount at Oliver Bonas; 30% discount for new Bloom and Wild customers; booking a relaxing spa break of their choice, using the SpaSeeker 7% discount.
Teachers can also benefit from up to 22% off Liz Earle or Look Fantastic, 20% off on a range of activities offered by Virgin Experience Days and 10% off Hotel.com.
Discounts For Teachers’ research shows that members save an average of £2,262 per year, and 91% of members say that discounts help them to afford a higher quality of life.
These small perks and offers can go some way towards alleviating any work-related stress and help teachers to make time for their mental and physical wellbeing.
